Amen comes from omen

You are headed for oblivion

Stuntin’ with the imam

In Oman

Loaded for bear

Lay it on the linebacker

Hawk on top of a cross

On top of the Orthodox Church

On Avenue A and East 10th

I’m going to rebrand myself

The Texas Abortion Clinic

Free Time

Sky in puddle looks up to itself,

A pearly patch on the corner.

November dresses in drizzle.

A band of sycamore leaves

Stitches yellow into umber.

Cold hands hold umbrellas.

Brown pennies spin.

A mother’s eyes glaze over

Stalking the future.

My words slip out,

Jewels owned by air,

Raindrops strung in a web

Noted only by an old spider.

Sky in puddle looks up to itself.

Wake Up Call

Married to the sands of time

A kestrel’s rasp rakes

The air in its wake of light

March pear blossoms arch

Over idle side streets

Circulating without rest

In unblazed sections

Where last night lingers

And startled seconds stir

At the corner as if you were

Still living here

I erect a burning flag

To raze the wind inside

The sky — a curtain of red

About Jeffrey Cyphers Wright

Jeffrey Cyphers Wright is an artist, critic, eco-activist, impresario and publisher, but is best known as a poet. He received his MFA in Poetry after studying with Allen Ginsberg. From 1987 to 2000 he ran Cover Magazine, the Underground National. He is the art editor for Boog and for many years he was the poetry reviewer for The Brooklyn Rail. In 2014 he won Theater for the New City’s poetry contest. Wright currently produces an art and poetry showcase called Live Mag!
